Knit your Bit

I've been thinking about the disasters in Southeast Asia (who isn't?) and I'd like to find some way to help. I was wondering if anyone would be interested in putting on a Knitathon fundraiser for the Red Cross. We could invite other S+B'ers, collect pledges and see how long we can go on only knitting and beer! It could be a public event with performers (spinning yarns as we knit them) and the opportunity for new knitters to learn. I have some other ideas we could discuss on Monday if anyone else wants to do this... See you then.

Boxing day yarn scores

I was in Victoria for the last few days and went to one of my favorite yarn shops, the Beehive Wool Shop where in my attempt to draw myself away from dark colours, I found 6 brightly coloured fun and fuzzy balls of yarn in a bargain bin: Patons Bella in Fennel and Patons Anna in Geranium. Not sure what I'll make with them yet, maybe some bags...
I have been diligently working on my shawl (except mine's in multi-coloured) for the last couple months and I am supposed to actually use most of the ball of wool, according to the pattern, but there is still an astounding amount of it left to use, which makes me wonder just how enormous this shawl will be!

Knitting the Superheroes

Fellow knitters might be interested in an exhibition at the absolutely beautiful Chicago Cultural Centre of Mark Newport's knitted superhero costumes.

Staring up at these mammoth suits, then reading the dates of creation, from last year to this year, all I've got to say is that I am hiring Newport to finish my scarf for me.
